Infection Control for medical scales

Why should medical Scales be protected?

  • Bacterial and fungal infections can be easily spread on fomite surfaces

  • Every patient in a medical facility is typically required to weigh in

  • Many patients remove their shoes when being weigned

  • Covering scales is an effective part of an infection control plan

What infections are spread by the feet? â€‹

  • Athlete's foot is a fungal infection of the foot. It causes peeling, redness, itching, burning, and sometimes blisters and sores

  • A staph infection can be picked up by the foot from the floor.  Staph infections can range from minor skin problems to endocarditis, a life-threatening infection of the inner lining of the heart.

  • Pitted keratolysis causes smelly feet and occlusive footwear and causes the forefoot or the heel or both become white with clusters of punched-out pits.

  • Fungal nails may result from spreading fungal infections and cause the nail to become thick and discolored resulting in inflamation and sensitivity.

Why is Scale Paper an effective solution?

Infection control is an important objective for health facilities.  Scale Paper protects patients from infections that are easily spread:

  • Patients step on Scale Paper rather than contaminated surfaces

  • Scale Paper sheets are disposable after each use

  • Scale Paper contains powerful antimicrobials that kill common foot infections
